Armenia car rental
Before leaving for Armenia, it’s best to compare car rental prices to make sure you’re getting a good deal. Although public transport is fairly cheap, the friendly locals will want to chat all day long to you and you’ll never get to the attractions so a hire car is worthwhile. Due to the diverse climate and terrain in the country, an SUV might be a good choice if you’re heading through the forests or up the mountainous areas.
With flights taking around 14 hours, usually with a stop in Paris or Turkey, it’s a long trip so it’s best to have an itinerary planned for your arrival. Canadian travelers tend usually like to see a range of things, from ancient churches and monasteries to the stunning hiking trails on Mount Ararat.
Travelers’ favorites
From the Garnie Temple to the Debed River Canyon and Lake Sevan, there are many man-made and natural beauties in Armenia. The Khosrov Preserve is one to hunt out as it is rarely in the guidebooks but is a true delight. With stunning churches, particularly in Echmiadzin, there are many ancient structures that have lasted more than 3,000 years. In total there are more than 1,700 of these churches in the country, so you’re never far away from one.
Ararat is home to a large city and an abundance of shopping opportunities. Haggle with the local vendors, buy gifts and souvenirs or sample the barbecued pork, chicken and beef. For skiers, the Tsaghkadzor region is the best place and offers stunning views as well as soft snow.
Best time to visit
Any time is a good time to visit Armenia. If you’re looking for some sun during the winter in Canada, then head to Lake Sevan and try some fishing, or if you’re looking to get out of the humidity, then head to the mountainous regions and try snowboarding or skiing.
