Bahrain

Bahrain car rental

Although not many Canadian tourists head to Bahrain, the island has many delights, from bustling city centers to stark, arid deserts. Car rental is a popular choice for visitors, and it’s best to add satellite navigation to your rental car as road signs are infrequent.

With the majority of hire car providers being located in the airport, it’s best to compare car rental to seek out the lowest prices. As public transport can be difficult to use and a rental allows more freedom, many Canadian tourists choose this option.

Travelers’ favorites

The island sees thousands of tourists arrive each year for the F1 Grand Prix and golf championships, so if you’re into sports and love fine dining, Bahrain is a great choice. For a back-to-basics mode of transport, camel rides are regularly available just outside of the cities.

The oddly-placed Tree of Life in the middle of the desert is a must-visit attraction, as is Bahrain fort, which has been renovated and restored. There is a large museum next to the fort that offers a chance to see historical pieces and exhibits from the Dimun periods. For shoppers, Muharraq in the north is a great place for souvenirs, ultra-modern shopping malls and is where the majority of the luxury hotels are located. Meanwhile, The Hawar Islands, just off the coast of Qatar, are a must for Canadian travelers as they offer great sunbathing and snorkeling opportunities.

Best visiting time

November through to March is the best time for Canadian visitors as the weather is still hot and sunny but is certainly manageable. During the dry season from October through April, Bahrain sees sandstorms and temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius, making it almost unbearable. The cooler season sees nights that might require a sweater, so pack wisely.
