Dominica

Dominica car rental

Limestone rock formations, volcanoes, stunning beaches, friendly people and an array of hiking and trekking opportunities are just some of the reasons Canadians head to the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica. Tropical rainforests, thermal lakes and waterfalls can be seen also, and although the island is fairly small, car rental in Dominica is a good way to get around and explore it fully.

It’s best to compare car rental in Canada before you leave, as the prices vary wildly if you purchase it on the island. Having air conditioning is a welcomed relief from the intense sunshine and as public transport is scarce and when you do find it, it’s unreliable, so having a rental car is very handy too.

Travelers’ favorites

There are many things to do on the island including jet-skiing, zip-lining, kayaking and ATV tours. Hiking in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park is also highly recommended. Relaxing on the many beaches or using a rental car to seek out smaller, more private beaches are also a great idea.

For Canadians heading to the Caribbean for a holiday, Dominica’s Boiling Lake, which is heated from a volcano, is a great place to relax and unwind. There are many snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing tours to go on with guides and just offshore there are some of the Caribbean’s best corals on offer.

Best time to visit

Throughout the year, Dominica is a great place to head to but travelers should steer clear in August and September when there is a high possibility of hurricanes. The winds devastate the island almost every year and yet they rebuild it back better than ever, but you don’t want to be caught in one.

Over December and January is a great time to go, as the temperatures are slightly cooler but still excellent for sunbathing.
