The small tropical country of French Guiana is located on the North Atlantic coast. The country is also boarded by Brazil and by Suriname. In the last decade, Canadian travelers have grown to be fond this country, especially those who can speak French because it the dominant language.

There are a number of nice places to visit in French Guiana. One interesting town to visit is Cacao. Cacao is unusual because it has been settled by refugees from Laos and here you can expect to find some interesting markets that sell Laotian crafts and food.
If you want to explore the history of the island, then be sure to pay a visit to Iles du Salut, which is an old prison that was used during the colonial times. Sometimes it’s easy to reach the prison but it depends on the sea currents. The Animal Reserve is also a popular place to visit because you can see animals such as jaguars, which is a once in a lifetime experience.
Best time of the year to visit
Most visitors choose to come in the dry season, which starts around July and goes on for six months. This means there is no rain normally and it makes travelling around easy especially if you want to use car rental. The rainy season is a similar temperature but often it means you can’t explore the beaches or jungle.
