Haiti is located in the Caribbean Sea and features great beaches, lush forests and great prices for Canadian travelers. The island can be reached by plane or boat and many large American airlines operate flights from Canada to Haiti via major US gateways, which makes reaching the island easy.

Things to do in Haiti

To travel around Haiti it is highly recommended that visitors use car rental. Using a car means you can get places without delays because public transport is limited. Many of the attractions are found in Port Au Prince such as the Sainte Trinite Episcopalian Cathedral and the Centre d’Art.

If you wish to explore outside of the large cities, you may want to check out Bassins Blue, a stunningly beautiful waterfall, or the pristine Etang Saumatre Lake. The country also boasts some wonderful beaches, many of which feature classic Caribbean white sand.

Weather

The weather in Haiti is generally hot all year round. However, the country also spends much of the year in a rainy season and is at risk for hurricanes during the late summer and fall, particularly in August. February is a nice tome to visit as they hold a Haitian Festival, which is a once in a lifetime cultural experience.

Exploring by car

The roads in Haiti are not up to Canadian standards. Those who do want to compare car rental prices and use car rental should be aware that local driving habits are quite erratic and road conditions are generally poor. It is important to drive with the car locked and the windows up. A GPS is also a good idea as many roads are unmarked.
