Isle of Man
Isle of Man car hire
The UK boasts some hidden treasures away from the mainland; one of them is the Isle of Man, which is found off the north coast of England. Canadians generally find the Isle of Man quite appealing. It’s great for a laid-back vacation, as it seems a world away from the large cities of England.
Highlights
Some of the things to not miss on Isle of Man are the Groudle Glen Railway, Castle Rushen, Grove Museum, the House of Manannan and the Leece House Museum. The largest city of Douglas is also home to some amazing English pubs and great places to shop. Canadian travelers that use car rental will find that reaching the attractions is easy.
If you are daring and want to try out something new, then check out one of the famous Isle of Man Ghost Tours. The island is renowned for having many haunted sites and this is a popular activity amongst all visitors to the Isle of Man.
Driving conditions
The roads on the island are well kept and the laws are fully enforced, though on some of the rural roads you may need to drive slower and watch out for cattle. You’ll need a valid international driver’s permit and Canadians should be aware that the island observes left-hand driving rules. It’s often best to compare car hire online before arriving and rates are very competitive in the shoulder seasons.
Climate
The weather is generally cool year-round, but the warmer summer months start in May and go till September. These are the best months to visit as this is when the tourist season is in full swing and you will be able to pick from some great places to stay – some guesthouses shut for the winter months.
