Highlights

Wine is a big aspect of the country heritage and there are wine trips out to the vineyards from the capital city of Chisinau, as well as more rural locations. History also plays a major part in the Moldavian culture with some of Europe’s finest monasteries located here. One such is the Capriana Monastery which has been dated back to Alexandra the Great and 1429. This superb structure is 30 miles north west of the capital so easily reached using the convenience of the car.

In the city center is the Noul Neamt monastery and the Triumphal Arch which has a similar style to the one found in Paris. As a country which is close to many other cultures the cuisine has developed from the Turks, the Romanians and the Russians, so the local restaurants serve up dishes which are quite unique.

Exploring by Car

The countryside is very agricultural and there is little in the way of public transport in the outlaying parts. So the car is an ideal way of getting out to view the vineyards and the smaller villages of the country. As anew state Moldova is still developing from its previous era, so accommodation opportunities may not bas a good as those found in the likes of Germany. However for the Canadian traveler this may be something which appeals.

Tourist Season and Weather

The central European winters are not dissimilar to those of the southern provinces of Canada so there would be few surprise in store for Canadian visitors. The high season is the period between June and September when the whole of Europe is on the move. Car rental is useful as the rail and air links do get very busy, and of course the fares are sky high.
