Morocco

Morocco car rentals

Millions of Canadians flock to this exotic destination each year to experience its rich culture, excellent cuisine, stunning landscapes and fabulous markets. It is no wonder why this beautiful country is one of Northern Africa’s most popular tourist destinations. It is normally easy to reach from all Canadian cities with a quick stop over in Montreal, and well worth heading to.

Highlights

Marrakech is the most visited tourist destination in the country and features a perfect mixture of old and new and fantastic shopping opportunities. From here, it is easy to reach the North Atlantic coast where travelers can enjoy the sand and sea in either Agadir or Essauira. Fez is also a great place to visit and is famous for its ancient walled city. The city of Tangier is close to the capital and showcases a great mix of Spanish, French and North African culture.

Casablanca is the main gateway into Morocco and home to the impressive King Hassan II Mosque. It is worth spending a couple of days here to get a taste of the culture before exploring further. It is also a great place for arranging a car rental as the express toll route passes through here and heads towards the northern and southern provinces.

Exploring by car

Car rental is an excellent way to explore the country and witness its stunning landscapes. The main roads are in good condition and the toll expressways connect all of the major cities, making them quick and effortless to visit. All car rental drivers should use caution, as many locals do not obey the traffic laws. The same laws that are found throughout Europe should be followed and all signs are written in both Arabic and French.

Tourist season and weather

Many Europeans visit throughout the hot summer months making the beaches quite crowded, however Canadians will find that the spring is most ideal. The weather is most pleasant from March to May, as are the autumn months of September, October and November. If possible, the month of Ramadan should be avoided as many businesses close or cut their hours of operation during this period.
