These off-the-beaten-track islands are a great destination for Canadians wanting an exotic holiday during the cold winter months at home. The archipelago is Known for excellent diving, it many “War in the Pacific” Parks, stunning beaches and great gambling opportunities. Although it is a far trip, Canadians will find it well worth the three to five hour flights from Japan, South Korea or Hong Kong.

Highlights

Saipan is the largest and most visited of the islands. Here, diving is the most popular activity due to the stunning coral reef and many shipwrecks that surround it. It also has some interesting historical attractions such as the Banzai Cliff and Suicide Cliff, and gambling is a favorite amongst many Canadian, Asian and American tourists on holiday here.

The second largest and also popular island of Tinian’s is known for its WWII American airstrips that are now museums and open to the public. It also has some of the Northern Mariana Islands’ best beaches. The island also houses Latte stone structures dating back to 1500 BC that were produced by the island’s ancient inhabitants.

Exploring by car

A car rental is a great way to explore these islands, as there is no public transport here. Some remote and untouched areas can be discovered while touring around in car rental. Unfortunately you cannot take a car from one island to another although each has plenty of agents allowing you to compare car rental. It should be noted that it is polite to wave to all passing traffic.

Tourist season and weather

Canadians will find it most ideal to travel between November and June, which is the dry season. The rainy season from July to October sees torrential downpours, which are at their worst in August and September. Temperatures here are known to be equable and sit at 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit. This is especially true on the island of Saipan.
