Panama car rentals
This attractive tourist destination is fast becoming popular amongst many travelers, particularly Canadians wanting to escape the winter snow. Panama offers distinct and pristine beaches along both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, as well as mountains and rainforests and is excellent for hiking, scuba diving and exploring the historical cities. Equally appealing is its short distance from all major Canadian air hubs and Canadians can obtain a visa on arrival.
Highlights
The region closest to neighboring Costa Rica is one of the most visited areas and houses many of the country’s most beautiful landscapes. Hikers will enjoy the rainforests at La Amistad International Park, as well as to the peak of Volcan Baru, Panama’s highest mountain. The area is also reachable by car rental, making it possible for anyone to experience its breathtaking views. The Quetzal Trail is also famous amongst hikers and is accessible through the beautiful mountain village of Boquete.
Panama City is the magnificent capital and the main gateway into Panama and itself is a great place to spend a few days. Its historic Casco Viejo makes for fantastic strolls and the Miraflores locks offer boat and train rides along the stunning Panama Canal. The Fort San Lorenzo can be seen in the city of Portobelo, which is easy to reach by car rental.
Exploring by car
Panama’s road system is great and a car rental is an ideal way to explore off the beaten track. However, you must have defensive driving skills here, especially within the cities. There are plenty of well-known agents in Panama, making it possible to compare car rental to suit your needs, and a 4WD is a great option for exploring the mountains.
Tourist season and weather
Panama’s tourist season runs from December to April when rains are scarce and it less humid. This is also the most ideal time for Canadians travelers as it coincides with the winter season. To avoid the crowds, try visiting from May to November, which is the rainy season although it usually only rains in the late afternoons and evenings.
