Qatar car rental
Many Canadians have become fascinated with the Middle East and Qatar is a great place to experience the culture, cuisine and hot desert while still being surrounded by modern facilities. With its museums, ancient ruins, stunning sand dunes and beautiful beaches, it is no wonder why it is one of the Middle East’s most visited countries.
Highlights
Doha is the capital and is a favorite tourist destination. It features great museums and cultural sights, fantastic accommodations and restaurants, the magnificent Souq Waqif and the beautiful promenade the Corniche, which is one of its best attractions. Another good choice is Al Khor, which is just north of the capital and is quickly reachable by car rental.
Qatar’s interior desert is one of its main draws and a desert exploration is a must for all. The famous Singing Sand Dunes are just outside of the capital, while Khor Al Udeid (Inland Sea) offers a similar experience without the singing. Also a favorite is the culturally rich village of Katara.
Exploring by car
Driving in Qatar is very easy as there is an excellent road system and gasoline prices are low. The entire country can be accessed by car rental; however, be sure to pre-arrange this to ensure availability. Moreover, car rental prices vary from one company to another so it is recommended to compare car rental prices beforehand. Canadians need an international driver’s license and must be 21 years of age.
Tourist season and weather
The tourist season is from November to March when the weather is most pleasant and December and January are the coolest months. The temperature rises above 40ºC from June to September and many Canadians will find it is unbearable. However, if you do wish to travel at this time, there are plenty of air-conditioned buildings around perfect for escaping the heat.
