At the heart of British culture, London is still the UK’s biggest draw, and for good reason. Alongside international tourism favourites such as Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge, this city is one of Europe’s great hotspots for nightlife, dining, hospitality and is a melting pot of cultures. Meanwhile, the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey make for a fantastic seaside getaway while music fans can hop on a train or head by car rental to Liverpool to check out the latest and greatest artists in the hometown of the Beatles. Further north, classic golf courses, rugged mountains and lively cities await in Scotland.

Exploring by car

Car rental isn’t really the best option for those staying in major urban areas in the UK, but for Canadians headed outward it is a fabulous choice. Of course, left-hand driving rules apply here and parking is a much larger issue than in Canada, so come prepared. During mid-summer, visitors should opt to compare car rental and hotel options before traveling.

Tourist season and weather

The UK generally doesn’t see temperatures reach the intense extremes seen in Canada; winters are much milder and summers are cooler. The latter is the height of tourism here and the best bet for a break from the often-bleak conditions, though spring can be exceptionally beautiful and pleasant due to blooming flowers and warming temperatures. It does rain a lot though!
