Venezuela
Car rentals Venezuela
Canadians heading to Venezuela can enjoy excellent value and an extremely dynamic vacation destination that features fantastic Caribbean beaches, pristine Amazon rainforest, stunning wildlife, massive Andean peaks and a vibrant local culture. Moreover, the trip is a mere six or seven hours from most Canadian cities.
Highlights
The majority of visitors arrive at the country’s major airports in Caracas or Maracaibo, although most will quickly head to outlying destinations via car rental. Favorites include excellent bird watching and the sun-kissed beaches at Parque Nacional Henri Pittie, as well as Isla de Margarita, where the country’s best resorts are available for a fraction of the prices seen elsewhere in the Caribbean. Meanwhile, nature lovers will do well with some time amid teaming wildlife and waterfalls along the Río Caura, while others will be better served by the coral reefs and white-sand beaches in the phenomenal Parque Nacional Mochima.
Exploring by car
Car hire is excellent for exploring Venezuela, although travelers must use caution; certain parts of the country are best left off the itinerary for safety reasons, while erratic drivers and poor road conditions can also be a problem in many areas. Otherwise, road rules are similar to those in Canada. During Venezuelan holidays, it’s necessary to book hotels and compare car hire in advance.
Tourist season and weather
Venezuela is enjoyable anytime of year and temperatures see little seasonal variation. Things cool off high in the Andes while tropical conditions and regular thunderstorms generally persist across the rest of the country year-round. Check the calendar for local holidays before setting out; this can have a big effect on rates and availability for car rental and hotels.
