Car rentals Zimbabwe
The southern African nation of Zimbabwe is a favourtie destination for safari enthusiasts and also offers amenities like great golf and fantastic archaelogical artifacts. For this reason, adventuresome Canadians continue to flock here year after year in search of wild zebra, lions, unique cultures and an all-African vacation.
Highlights
Zimbabwe’s greatest assets are widely regarded to be its natural wonders; perhaps the most famous is Victoria Falls, which is a massive, roaring and awe-inspiring place where immeasurable amounts of water spill over the Zimbabwe/Zambia border. Many tourists head onward from here via tour companies or car hire to the spectacular Mana Pools National park, where zebras, lions and hippopos can all be seen in a single day. Down the road is the quirky community of Harare, which is set next to top-notch golf courses and features the wonderful International Festival of the Arts every April. Alternatively, visitors can head to ancient Great Zimbabwe to view some of the best archaeological ruins south of the Pyramids.
Exploring by car
Canadians arriving by air can acquire car rental at the country’s main airports and at Victoria Falls; compare car hire rates before leaving to find reduced rates. However, due to poorly maintained and unmarked roads, many visitors instead choose to travel with tour companies. Zimbabwe is a left-hand traffic country.
Tourist season and weather
Wildlife viewing is best during September and October, but Zimbabwe’s weather is enjoyable year-round. Moreover, conditions are often much milder than in neighboring countries due to higher altitudes. November to May is the wet season and the warmer part of the year, while “winter” stretches from May to October but temperatures rarely dip below 10 degrees Celsius.
